Victor’s Wednesday Selections – July 20th 2022

Hi all,

The cooling weather means there are seven meeting across Britain & Ireland on Wednesday. The afternoon action takes place at Lingfield, Southwell and Catterick. The better-quality racing take place this evening where there’s Listed action at Naas. There are also fixtures Sandown, Leicester, and Limerick.  I have several fancies at Naas this evening and one at Southwell.

Naas

6:00 – Dandyville won this 12 months ago when trained Natalia Lupini and went onto win at Fairyhouse in September, off 3lb higher. He hasn’t been at his best on three starts since switching to his present yard but there was more to like about the 4-year-old’s 6 lengths third of 9 at Fairyhouse last time.

7:00 – Mauiewowie, trained by Ger Lyons, made an impressive racecourse debut when winning over C&D. It was a hands-and-heels success for the daughter of Night Of Thunder and she’s clearly open to plenty of improvement. After that success her trainer was talking about her being a Cheveley Park Stakes filly. If that’s the case, she will be tough to beat. Her win did come on softish ground though.

Newmarket trainer Alice Haynes saddles Lady Hollywood her first runner in Ireland in the Listed Marwell Stakes (7:00). The filly comes into the race bidding for hat trick after wins at Lingfield and back on turf at Beverley. She showed plenty of speed to win at Beverley, there should be more to come, and she looks well worth her place in Listed company.

Mauiewowie could turn out to be a Group level juvenile and if that’s the case she’ll win. However, Lady Hollywood will do for me each way.

8:30 – Brasil Power won over 7f, last October on his final start for George Boughey. He was sent off just 7/4 for his stable debut for Joseph O’Brien over 1m 2f back in April. He ran well for a long way that day before fading 1f out. The 3-year-old was also sent off favourite for nis next start here over a mile, but he was very disappointing. He’s been given a 86-day break since that run and the first time tongue is fitted. Back over 7f and I hoping for better run as I think he’s fairly treated.

Southwell

4:05 – Tim Easterby did us a favour when Snash won at Ayr on Monday and I’m going to take a chance with his runner Ava Go Joe here. A winner twice in the spring on turf he’s back down to his last winning mark after a very disappointing run at Hamilton last month. Hopes are likely pinned on the 4-year-old taking too the synthetic surface. His dam was a multiple winner on the all-weather which is encouraging, and trainer Tim Easterby & jockey Duran Fentiman are among the winners.
