Victor’s Wednesday Preview – September 27th 2023

Hi all,

Today’s Goodwood card is today’s stand out meeting quality wise with the highlight being the Listed Foundation Stakes (3:40).

Goodwood

My Prospero third in last season’s Group 1 Champion Stakes takes a big drop in class in this Listed contest. On official ratings he has 8lb in hand of his nearest rival King Of Conquest and will be tough to beat on ground that he handles. King Of Conquest hails from the inform Charlie Appleby yard and can’t be discounted and his last win came on soft ground. Sierra Blanca showed useful form when trained by Aidan O’Brien. Ending his time at Ballydoyle with a win in a Naas maiden (heavy) last November. First start since joining Freddie Meade & Martyn Meade and has an each -way chance if ready to roll after his long absence.

The EBF £100,000 2YO Fillies’ Series Final (4:15) is the most valuable race run today. Chic Colombine completed the hat trick when winning a Doncaster nursery (6 ½ f) 13 days ago. Today’s slightly longer trip looks a plus and she proved her effectiveness on soft ground last time. I’m not sure about the track but I do know she’s got the physical scope to be the best of these juvenile’s long term. Local Arms won a soft ground Beverley novice 7 days ago is another capable of more improvement and must be respected from the Karl Burke yard.

Rest of the Goodwood card

3:05 – Harb looks to have a good chance of following up last week’s Sandown success in this 6f handicap. Soft ground suits the 4-year-old and if he’s in the same form as last week can defy a 5lb penalty.

4:50 – Albany has improved her RPR’s on each of her four starts. A winner of a Windsor novice (1m 2f) 51 days ago. She takes a big step up in trip on handicap debut but on pedigree could improve for it. Her dam won on soft ground and she by Lope De Vega so underfoot conditions shouldn’t faze the 3-year-old. Bookies are taking no chance with the filly as she’s around the 6/4 mark which doesn’t scream value.  For all that I think she wins.

5:20 – Wind Your Neck In’s two juvenile successes came on soft ground last season and although he hasn’t won since his juvenile days, he’s down in the handicap, now 6lb below his last winning mark, and his close up second at Sandown three starts back and he should be able to take advantage of his mark on a going day.
