Victor’s Tuesday Selections – August 15th 2023

Hi all,

The race of the day is the 14 runner Colwick Cup (Handicap) at Nottingham.

Nottingham

4:00 – We have a short-priced favourite in the shape of the Golden Shot. The 4-year-old has a 5lb penalty to carry for a much improved success in a handicap at Ffos Las 7 days ago. Given his present form he’ll be tough to beat but it will be different ground today which gives his rivals some hope.

Quantum Leap made it 2-3 when beating six rivals on handicap debut at Haydock (1m 6f) last month. He’s up 5lb for his Haydock success but that was an improved effort and with a well-run race looks capable of an even bigger performance. It was good to soft last time, but the 4-year-old should be fine on what seems likely to be quicker ground.  After Haydock win trainer Ed Bethall was thinking that he could be a contender for the next month’s Mallard Handicap at Doncaster. If he is, he would need to go close here, and I think he can. William Hill are a standout 10/1 but the generally available 8/1 looks fine to me.

Quantum Leap – 1pt win – 8/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes.

Cheers

John
