Victor’s Thurles Selections – Janaury 22nd 2022

Hi all,

I’m on holiday now until Friday so there won’t be any selections until next Saturday’s preview. Hopefully I can sign off with a winner at Thurles this afternoon.

Thurles

2:10 – Stumptown isn’t the most consistent of horses but was back to form when an 8 ¾ length 3rd of 12 here (2m 2f) two starts back. The 6-year-old was let down by his jumping at Punchestown last time. Returning to this venue should suit and he’s got the ability to win a race like this off his present mark when he gets his jumping right.

Charlie Stout isn’t the horse he once was and  the 12-year-old is on a losing run that goes back 3 years but there was a bit of encouragement to be gleaned from his never nearer 21 length 4th of 16 at Leopardstown 24-days ago. If he can build on that run I can see him running a big race here.

3:40 – You can make some sort of case for most of the seven runners in this handicap hurdle. Preference though is for the Gordon Elliott trained Rock On Cassie. A winner of a Punchestown maiden hurdle last January. The mare hasn’t been seen since pulling up in Grade 3 at Limerick in March. If she’ ready to roll after a 10 month absence, looks on a workable for her handicap debut.

Betting Advice:

Thurles

2:10 – Stumptown – 1pt win – 9/2 @ Bet365 and Charlie Stout – 1pt win – 14/1 @ Bet365

See you all on Saturday.

Cheers

John
