Another profitable weekend with a couple of big priced winners at Naas yesterday and overall, a good start to 2022 for the service. Which means of course I have probably already used up my quota of winners for the last eight or so days. However, I really like one in the 3:10 at Plumpton this afternoon.
Plumpton
3:10 – Minella Buster comfortably won a maiden hurdle here over 2m 4 ½ f here last month. Step up to 3m 1f asks another question of the 6-year-old but he likely remains capable of better on his handicap hurdle debut.
No stamina concerns with Sirobbie who is now 3lb below his last winning mark and must be respected on the best of last season’s form with the cheekpieces back on after they were left off last time.
Another runner who had dropped below his last winning mark is the Bard Of Brittany. The 8-year-old improved nicely for facing a sounder surface when winning three times between March & May. He’s now 5lb below his last winning mark and hasn’t been running to badly on his last two starts. Back up to 3m last time when a rallying 9 ½ length 5th of 11 at Taunton 32-days ago. He’s yet win beyond 2m 4f but he shaped last time he should stay 3m, especially at track that suits him (2 wins and a second from 4 starts at Plumpton). This type ground suits him better than soft and I think he can go close here.
Bard Of Brittany is a general 11/2. Although Bet365 are still a stand out 7/1 at the time of writing, I must confess I was hoping for bit better on the odds front.

Punchestown
3:50 – Not a confident selection but top-weight Porky Rush can hopefully give his backers a decent run for their money in this 3m handicap hurdle. The 7-year-old is an eight-race maiden but he’s very much respected on his ¾ length 2nd of 11 over around today’s trip at Wexford in June. Granted he’s got two non completions since that run. He was brought down back at Wexford next time and unseating his rider at Limerick on his return from a 5-month absence 34-days ago.
