Victor’s Listowel Selections – Tuesday September 20th 2022

Hi all,

The best of the day’s action is once again at Listowel. After a couple days of jumps racing, the flat horses are in action on day three of the Listowel Festival. The feature race is the Edmund & Josie Whelan Memorial Listowel Stakes (4:20) although overall the card isn’t the strongest it looks competitive. Most of the horses I initially liked on the card are drawn out wide which isn’t ideal, but I stuck with one of them.  It’s a tricky enough card and I would be pleased to get one winner to continue the recent good run of the service.

Listowel

2:00 – Rose Of Malta, a stablemate of Dragon Of Malta, put in a seasonal best when a length 2nd of 23 at Cork (soft) 13-days ago. Has a handy draw in 5 and doesn’t look far away from shedding her maiden tag if reproducing her Cork performance on a sounder surface.

1pt win – Rose Of Malta – 6/1 @ Bet365

3:45 – Dragon of Malta was runner-up in a mile handicap here 12 months ago. He’s improved with each of his three starts this season and was a good neck 2nd of 13 at Roscommon 22-days ago. I think he would prefer easier ground, but he’s got good form on a sound surface like last time. Jake Coen takes off a handy 5lb off the top-weight’s back which is hardly a negative. Plenty in the geldings favour but he is drawn out in stall 15 which isn’t ideal.

1pt win – Dragon of Malta – 11/2 @ Bet365

4:20 – Alizarine failed to stay 1m 4f at Galway last time and the 3-year-old is better judged on her ½ length 2nd off 11 in a Nass Listed race two starts back. Has a handy low draw in 5 and goes well on a sound surface. A tentative selection in what looks a competitive contest.

1pt win – Alizarine – 5/1 @ Bet365

Cheers

John
