Victor’s Friday Selections – September 2nd 2022

Hi all,

Not the best start to a new month. I have several fancies today including one of then runs at Haydock in the feature The Tin Man Handicap (3:03).

Haydock

3:03– Khanjar was in good form when last seen in action finishing a 2-length 3rd of 19 to Lethal Levi at Newmarket 57-days ago. The one to beat but he’s a best priced 11/10 which is unappealing. Ghathanfar has had a great season already but is likely vulnerable of his present mark. That said he could be nicely placed in a race that lacks much pace. Of the rest Project Dante is interesting in the first-time cheekpieces. He’s got 3 ¼ lengths to find with Ghathanfar on their running at York last time and needs the headgear to have the desired effect.

1pt win – Project Dante – 8/1 @ Paddy Power & Betfair Sportsbook

Ascot

4:55 – Mejthaam hasn’t been the most consistent of horses since joining Nigel Tinkler. However, she does have a couple of pieces of form this season that give her a big chance of his present mark. She was beaten a neck by Burning Cash at Doncaster in June and the following month didn’t get the best of runs inside the final furlong when a 3 ¾ length 5th of 12 to Ghathanfar at York. Can race off 8lb lower and although she’s disappointed on both starts since you can put a line through her last run when doing a solo down the stands rail at York.

1pt win – Mejthaam – 9/1 @ Ladbrokes

Down Royal

6:10 – There’s a big field for the Ulster Cesarewitch Handicap run over a marathon 2m 2f. Trainer Peter Fahey’s last three runners have won. Can Peregrine Run make it a fourth? Well, the 12-year-old returned to winning ways over fences at Worcester 16-days ago. His previous win had come on the flat at Leopardstown in July 2021. He’s inform and provided the rain stays away has a good chance of another success. Scenic Look must be respected off top weight 10-2. The mare a winner on the flat at Galway bounced back from a low key run over hurdles there 3-days later when winning here over hurdles 7-days ago. Three Comets isn’t the most reliable and is on a long losing run but he was nearest at the finish when a 3 ½ length 4th of 15 at Killarney on the flat in July and has since run well over hurdles at Galway last time. He’s a big price if you’re happy to take a chance that he’s a a bit of a reformed character.

1pt win – Peregrine Run – 15/2 @ Bet365
1pt each way – Three Comets – 25/1 @ Bet365 (paying 5 places 1/5 odds)

Cheers

John
