Hi all,
There’s Group 1 action in France this afternoon as Deauville hosts the Prix Rothschild (2.33) over a mile. Recent Group 1 Prix Jean Prat scorer Tenebrism, trained by Aidan O’Brien takes onDuke of Cambridge winner Saffron Beach. Despite the former’s recent Group 1 success it’s the latter that the bookies have as the early favourite.
Tenebrism proved to be well suited to the drop back to 7f last time, but she does stay a mile and in a steadily run race she may have to much speed for the favourite.
Saffron Beach made all to win the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket last autumn and I would expect jockey William Buick to make use of her stamina to make it a truly run race.
At the prices I like the look of third favourite Pearls Galore. If the ground is soft as being described that certainly won’t inconvenience the 5-year-old who has been aimed at this race all season. A winner of her first two starts this season she was little below par when a 3 ½ length 2nd of 5 to Order Of Australia in the Group 2 Minstrel Stakes (7f). A mile is her trip she’s very effective on rain softened ground and hopefully will give her backers a good run for their money.
Sibila Spain will appreciate underfoot conditions more than when last of 5 to Prosperous Voyage in the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes. She’s still to prove she’s a Group 1 filly but she’s not that far away and I expect a much better run from the 4-year-old today.
I’m happy to take the generally available 15/2 about Pearls Galore although she’s likely to be bigger on the pari-mutuel.
Betting Advice:
Deauville
2:33 – 1pt win – Pearls Galore – 15/2 – Gen
