Hi all,
I have had a look at two of today’s races and have selections in both.

The Shunter’s win in the Cesarewitch got me off the cold list and it was about time. I’m still kicking myself for going with just Pendleton in York’s Coral Sprint Trophy Handicap and not adding Montassib but you have to take those hits on the chin.

The Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes (2.00) is the highlight of the second day of action at Newmarket’s Future Champions Festival. The supporting card includes three Group 3 races and the weekend’s big betting race the marathon Cesarewitch Handicap (2:40).
ITV are covering five races from Newmarket and four more from York on a nine race programme. It’s the final day’s racing at York for 2023. It doesn’t seem that long that we were looking forward to the Dante Meeting.
Inside today’s preview I look at most of the nine ITV races, albeit in some cases a rather brief look and today’s betting advice can as ever be found at the end of the main piece.

A Friday of racing that wouldn’t be out of place on a Saturday. ITV Racing are giving it the full treatment too. Covering five races from Newmarket, two from York and for jump fans two from Persian War Day at Chepstow.
At Newmarket it’s the first of two days of its Future Champions Festival. The Group 1 bet365 Fillies’ Mile (4.10) is the highlight of a high quality Friday’s card. The supporting races include one Group 2 and two Group 3 contests and the normally competitive Old Rowley Cup (Handicap).
I have selections from Newmarket and York which can be found at the end of today’s main piece.

My first selections of the week and I’m going with couple over jumps. One from Ludlow and the other from Punchestown.

This weekend’s racing isn’t at the same level as Arc Weekend but it’s decent enough for this time in the season.
Newmarket’s Group 1 The Sun Chariot Stakes (3.15) is the weekend’s big race. Ascot has two Group 3’s on its Saturday card. However, the valuable Howden Challenge Cup (Handicap) is the weekend’s big betting race.
Redcar’s most valuable race of the season, the Listed William Hill Two Year Old Trophy (2:25) takes place on Saturday. It’s one of the valuable sales races run during the season and has £85,065 on offer to the winner. There’s also a big sales race at Newmarket (2:05) which has £150,000 in guaranteed prize money.
ITV4 are covering the best of the action from Newmarket & Ascot & Redcar on an eight race card this afternoon.

The weekend starts here with some decent action at Ascot and Dundalk.
The Listed Troy Asset Management Noel Murless Stakes (3:57) is the highlight of a six card at Ascot this afternoon. There are also two Listed contests on Dundalk evening card: The Legacy Stakes (6:00) and Star Appeal Stakes (7:00). It’s the latter race that interests me most.

Some decent racing today and I have a few of interest at Kempton and Navan.
First though I have a couple that I like at big prices for Saturday’s Howden Challenge Cup (Heritage Handicap) at Ascot.

There are six Group 1’s at Longchamp on Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Day. It’s the biggest day in French flat racing season and the Arc itself is the most valuable race run in Europe.
The Arc has been a good race for me over the years. However, nothing tops the 2021 race when I tipped up Torquator Tasso at 100/1 for subscribers of the service. There’s only one certainty this year I won’t be tipping one up at 100/1.
Fifteen have been declared for this year’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. On paper it doesn’t look the classiest renewal and there isn’t a standout contender like an Enable in the field. However, it doesn’t lack intrigue and with the bookies going 3/1 the field on Friday evening it makes the race more appealing for me.
You can watch the first four Group 1’s live on ITV4 or watch them all on Sky Sports Racing.
It’s a cracking afternoon of top class horse racing and one I always thoroughly enjoy.
In today’s main piece I have looked at all six Group’s and for one card it’s a very in-depth preview. Although I haven’t looked at the Group 1 Arabian World Cup which is live on ITV. I know nothing about Arabian Racing and in truth haven’t got the inclination to look at it. After all there’s plenty of other good racing to focus on.
Continue reading “Victor’s Arc Day Preview – Sunday October 1st 2023”Hi all,
It’s all about juveniles at Newmarket with two Group 1’s on the final day of the Cambridgeshire Meeting. Plus, we also have one of the most competitive handicaps run during the flat season in the Cambridgeshire Handicap (3:40).
Arc Weekend gets underway at Longchamp with two Group 1’s the highlights of the card. Sumo Sam bids for a Group 1 success after winning Group 2’s at Goodwood and Doncaster in the Prix de Royallieu (3:33). Mind you she faces several useful rivals including Melo Melo.
Just six have been declared for the other Group 1 the marathon Prix Du Cadran (1:33) and it looks between a revitalised Trueshan and staying mare Emily Dickinson.
ITV Racing are covering four races from Newmarket and one each from Chester & Haydock. Given the prize money on offer for the Chester race it’s disappointing the Class 2 handicap has only attracted nine runners and not a particularly strong field either.
