Victor’s Saturday Preview – August 6th 2022

Hi all,

Ascot hosts its annual Shergar Cup this afternoon.  Seven of the eight races at the Shergar Cup are being broadcast live on ITV as part of a bumper 11 race programme.  One of those 11 is the race of the day the Group 1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes (4.15) at the Curragh. ITV are also covering two races from Haydock and one from Newmarket this afternoon.

Inside today’s preview I look at the big Group 1 race at the Curragh and six of the eight races on the Shergar Cup card. Betting advice and selections are as ever at the end of the main piece.

Victor’s Friday Selections – August 5th 2022

Hi all,

It’s a busy old Friday with seven meetings across Britain & Ireland. It’s a case of quantity over quality though with most of the racing being moderate and or small field sizes this side of the Irish Sea

There’s a Class 2 handicap at Newmarket (7:10) with just four runners and a Class 3 (8:20) with just three. The Racing League had a 6f (0-90) handicap last evening which had 14 runners. Mind you there was £25,770 on offer to the winner of that race compared with the paltry £8,100 this evening.

The race of the day quality wise at Tipperary and the Listed Churchill Stakes (6:45) run over 7 ½ f.  I have selection in that race. Plus, I have one from Musselburgh and Wexford.

Victor’s Leopardstown Selections – Thursday August 4th 2022

Hi all,

The Racing League returns for the summer with Doncaster hosting round one of this novelty event. This year’s rounds will be shown live on ITV4.

Will I be watching? I may have a look.

Will I be having a bet? The team concept and all the hype that goes with it just doesn’t do it for me.

Mind you I’m being slightly disingenuous as I will likely have a bet or two in the Shergar Cup.

Before all the razzmatazz at Doncaster. Its day two of the Brighton’s Summer Festival this afternoon. However, the race of the day is across the Irish Sea at Leopardstown where it’s the Group 3 Ballyroan Stakes (6.45).

I have a couple of selections from this evening’s Leopardstown meeting.

Victor’s Deauville Selection – Tuesday Augsut 2nd 2022

Hi all,

There’s Group 1 action in France this afternoon as Deauville hosts the Prix Rothschild (2.33) over a mile. Recent Group 1 Prix Jean Prat scorer Tenebrism, trained by Aidan O’Brien takes onDuke of Cambridge winner Saffron Beach. Despite the former’s recent Group 1 success it’s the latter that the bookies have as the early favourite.

Victor’s Monday Selections – August 1st 2022

Hi all,

The start of a new month and we’re straight into the action.

Unusually for a Monday we have a big field competitive handicap to enjoy. At Windsor this evening it’s the Fitzdares Sprint Series Final with 16 declared for a race that wouldn’t be out of place on a Saturday.

I have selections in that race and another couple of fancies at Windsor and Cork.

Victor’s Galway and Chester Preview – Sunday 30th July 2022

Hi all,

The final day of the Galway Festival and there was rain around on the west of coast of Ireland yesterday.  Rain combined with plenty of watering in the run-up the festival has turned the ground soft on both tracks.

Besides Galway there’s also a competitive looking card at Chester on Sunday afternoon with the Listed Freddie Wilson Queensferry Stakes (2:55) the feature race of a seven race card. Judicial has won the last two running of the race but must overcome stall seven if he’s to land a race hat trick.

I have a few fancies at both Galway and Chester and today’s betting advice can be found at the end of the main piece.

It’s the end of the month for me and I’m going for a big hit to see if I can end it with a profit.

Qatar Goodwood Festival Preview – Day 5 – Saturday July 3oth 2022

Hi all,

Sprint handicaps don’t come much more competitive than the Coral Goodwood Stewards Cup (3:20). One of the biggest betting races of the flat season. If ever a race perfectly fitted the description “cavalry charge” it’s the Stewards Cup with 28 runners charging down downhill towards the winning post. You can see why a bookmaker would want to sponsor the headline race of the final of the Qatar Goodwood Festival.

In a shorter than normal preview I look at the Coral Goodwood Stewards Cup and there are few more selections from Goodwood.

Victor’s Qatar Goodwood Festival Preview – Day 4 and Galway Selections

Hi all,

A lower key day for day four of the Qatar Goodwood Festival with no Group 1’s today. The feature race is the Group 2 King George Qatar Stakes (3.35) which has £300,000 in guaranteed prize money. There also two Group 3’s on a seven-race card: The Thoroughbred Stakes (2.25) and the Glorious Stakes (4.10). The big betting race of the day is Coral Golden Mile Handicap (3:00) which has attracted a maximum field of 20 runners.

There’s also some good racing at Galway this evening with the Guinness Handicap (6:35) and the Guinness Galway Blazers Handicap Chase (6:00) the highlights of an eight-race card.

Once again, I have had a look at the six races live on ITV in today’s preview. Friday’s betting advice can be found at the end of the main piece.

It’s day 3 at the Qatar Goodwood Festival and day four at Galway. The highlight of Ladies Day at Galway is the Guinness Galway Hurdle (5.05) which has €159,300 on offer to the winner.

At Goodwood the Group 1 Nassau Stakes (3.35) is the feature of a seven-race card with recent French Oaks winner Nashwa likely to go off the odds-on favourite to land her first British Group 1.  The other Goodwood highlights include the Group 2 Richmond Stakes (2:25) and Group 3 Gordon Stakes.

Inside today’s main piece I preview I’ve had a look at the six ITV races and the Galway Hurdle. Today’s betting advice and selections is at the end of the main piece.
