Victor’s Wednesday Selections – September 21st 2022

Hi all,

Disappointing day on Tuesday but you must move on and don’t dwell in this game.

The race of the Listowel Festival is on this afternoon. The Guinness Kerry National Handicap Chase (Grade A) (4:20) has €200,000 in guaranteed prize money with €118,000 on offer to the winner. I tend to see the race as the first big handicap chase of the winter jumps season. However, unless the rain arrives it’s going to be run on anything but winter ground.

Besides Listowel there’s also a decent card at Goodwood this afternoon.  I have selections from both meetings which you can find at the end of the main piece.

Victor’s Listowel Selections – Tuesday September 20th 2022

Hi all,

The best of the day’s action is once again at Listowel. After a couple days of jumps racing, the flat horses are in action on day three of the Listowel Festival. The feature race is the Edmund & Josie Whelan Memorial Listowel Stakes (4:20) although overall the card isn’t the strongest it looks competitive. Most of the horses I initially liked on the card are drawn out wide which isn’t ideal, but I stuck with one of them.  It’s a tricky enough card and I would be pleased to get one winner to continue the recent good run of the service.

Victor’s Listowel Selections – Monday September 19th 2022

Hi all.

Highland Penny made all to win at Listowel yesterday to give the service a nice profit over the weekend.

There’s no racing in Britain today as it’s the Queen’s funeral at Westminster. However, there’s racing In Ireland at Listowel and Fairyhouse.

Victor’s Sunday Selections – September 18th 2022

Hi all,

Not sure how Marching Army was allowed to go off 22/1 at Newbury yesterday but I’m not complaining. It was the only winner on the day although plenty of the selections ran well but combined with Friday’s two winners it meant the service has moved into profit for the month.

It’s the start of what looks a busy week on the selections front. The Listowel “Harvest” Festival began on Sunday. It’s a long meeting which runs through until Saturday. To be fair most of the racing is moderate but it’s one of those Irish racing festivals which is more than just a race meeting

The meeting is the last major festival of the summer and the last one before Christmas in Ireland. When I think of Listowel, I always think autumn and the upcoming winter jumps season which is very much on the horizon.

For many Wednesday’s Guinness Kerry National Handicap Chase (4:20) is the highlight of the six days. It’s the first of the big handicap chases of the autumn and a normally a competitive contest. I will be looking at some of the handicaps at Listowel over the next couple of days. Well at least until the Cambridgeshire Festival gets underway on Thursday.

Today I have a selection in the sole handicap on the Listowel card and one at Hamilton for you.

Victor’s Saturday Preview – September 17th 2022

Evening all,

There are no complaints on the field size front today. Some 130 runners have been declared for Ayr’s eight races and 108 for eight races at Newbury. Those big field sizes don’t make winner finding easy, but it makes the racing a much better spectacle. Ok, there isn’t the Group 1 quality off last weekend, but the big field handicaps make up for it.

ITV are covering nine races live this afternoon. Five from Ayr and four from Newbury. Inside today’s main piece I look at the best of the action at Ayr & Newbury and Saturday’s betting advice is at the end of today’s preview.

Victor’s Ayr and Newbury Preview – Friday September 16th 2022

Victor’s Ayr Selections – Thursday September 15th 2022

Hi all,

For this first time this month there was a hint of autumn in the air in this morning. And so, it should be as Ayr’s Western Meeting gets underway on Thursday afternoon.

The going at Ayr is good to soft, good in places. There’re a few showers being forecast for the area over the next couple of days. However, the picture looks a mainly dry one and it could be good all over come Saturday.

A quiet start to the week on the selections front but I have a few fancies today at Ayr and they can be found at the end of the main piece.

Victor’s Doncaster and Curragh Preview – Sunday September 11th 2022

Evening all,

What with the Doncaster and the St Leger and the final day of Irish Champions Weekend we have a bonanza of big race action today.

Doncaster has combined the best races from Friday & Saturday’s cards into a nine-race meeting.  Due to events the Doncaster St Leger card is the arguably the strongest card at the racecourse in many years.

Meanwhile across the Irish Sea we have eight races at the Curragh.  ITV will be covering ten races from Doncaster and the Curragh live on Sunday afternoon.

It’s going to be a big day on the selections front and it’s not an exaggeration to say the fortunes of the whole of the month likely depend on a good day. My betting advice can be found at end of the main piece.

Victor’s Leopardstown Preview – Saturday September 10th 2022

Hi all,

No racing in England means Irish Champions Weekend gets underway with the stage to itself.  The BHA announced on Friday morning that all racing on Saturday in England would be cancelled. However, there will be a nine-race card on Sunday which will include the St Leger. The Flying Childers and Doncaster Cup that were due to be run on Friday will also be part of the card. As will the Champagne and Park Stakes from Saturday’s card.

Victor’s Doncaster St Leger Festival – Day 2 Preview – Thursday September 7th 2022

Hi all,

I couldn’t have got day one of the St Leger more wrong if I tried. I thought the ground would easier than it was. Doncaster seemed to have missed most of the rain that fell everywhere else over the last couple of days. It looked good ground with not much soft in it. Looking at the forecast its showery picture with the heaviest due on Thursday.

Day 2 of the St Leger Festival at Doncaster. The quality improves today with two Group 2’s the highlights of an eight-race card. First, we have the Cazoo May Hill Stakes (2.35) and then we have the Coral Park Hill Fillies’ Stakes (3.10).

ITV are covering the first five races from Doncaster and the Jump Jockeys Derby (2.15) at Epsom this afternoon. If that’s not enough for you. Then less than two hours later ITV4 will be covering seven races from the Racing League at Southwell on Thursday evening.

I have had a look at the five races from Doncaster that are live on ITV and today’s betting advice is at the end of the main piece.
