Victor’s Saturday Preview – April 7th 2023

Hi all,

Fairyhouse three-day Easter festival gets underway today. There’s sure to be competitive fields over the three days which culminates on Monday with Irish Grand National

This side of the Irish Sea there’s racing from two courses on ITV4 on Saturday afternoon. The seven race programme is a mix of NH and Flat action.

At Haydock it’s the Challenger Series Finals Day. And at Musselburgh it’s the return of the flat with the feature race being the valuable Tote Summer World Pool Queen’s Cup (3.35).

In today’s preview all seven races that are being covered on ITV this afternoon. Plus, as a bit of a bonus I have looked at the two valuable big field handicap hurdles on the Fairyhouse card.

Victor’s Wednesday Picks – April 5th 2023

Hi all,

A poor start to the month which is complete contrast to the previous months when we’ve had a flyer only to see things tail off from mid-month onwards.

There’s a decent enough card at Leopardstown this afternoon and there’s an interesting enough 2m 4f handicap chase (5:05) that concludes Wincanton’s jumps card.

Victor’s Sunday Preview – April 2nd 2023

Hi all,

One of those rare Sunday’s when we have some decent racing this side of the Irish Sea. It wouldn’t be out of place on a weaker Saturday.

There’s day 2 of Doncaster’s Lincoln meeting. The card isn’t of the same quality as yesterday’s but its competitive enough. Ascot provides decent card of late season jumping action. But most of the focus will be on Leopardstown where 1,000 & 2,000 Guineas Trials are the highlight of a seven race card. Jumps fans in Ireland aren’t left out either.  Up at Downpatrick the track hosts its most valuable race the Randox sponsored Ulster National (4:00).

Inside today’s main piece I look at the best of Sunday’s action.

Victor’s Saturday Preview – April 1st 2023

Hi all,

The start of a new month and my first selections since last Saturday. To be honest we didn’t miss much as this week’s racing was moderate to say the least.

A new month and the flat is back for the 2023 season on April Fool’s Day. Sorry jumps fans but today is the day when the real sport begins.

The Doncaster card looks decent, and the big betting race of the day, the Lincoln Handicap and its consolation race should see 20+ runner fields.

It’s just a shame that after such a dry winter that the recent heavy rain means the ground is going to be testing for the start of the new flat season.

There’s racing from two courses on ITV this Saturday. In addition to the first four races from Doncaster there are three races from Kempton’s all-weather card. I have looked at all seven races on ITV this afternoon and Saturday’s selections/betting advice can be found at the end of the main piece.

Victor’s Big Saturday Preview – March 25th 2023

Hi all,

Newbury and Kelso provide the best of the action in Britain this afternoon. With the ITV4 cameras covering the best of the action from both venues. Plus, as a bonus they’re also taking three races from World Cup Night at Meydan.

For those of you who prefer the flat, like I do, the Irish turf season gets underway at the Curragh this afternoon. The highlight of an eight race card is the latest renewal of the Paddy Power Irish Lincolnshire (3:35).

Saturday’s selections and betting advice can be found at the end of the main piece.

Victor’s Thursday Picks – March 23rd 2023

Hi all,

A busy weekend of racing begins today.

The most interesting race on Thursday is Ludlow’s Bromfield Sand And Gravel Handicap Chase (4:10). The three mile contest has only attracted six runners but it’s still an intriguing puzzle and you can make some cases for all six runners.

Victor’s Navan Picks – March 20th 2023

Hi all,

We couldn’t cap a great week with a winner on Saturday although Tile Tapper went very close in the Midlands Grand National.

It’s Taunton and Southwell this afternoon but the meeting of the day is a rescheduled Navan card. The seven race card which had been postponed due to snow includes the Grade 2 Webster Cup Chase (3:25).  Last year’s Grand National runner-up Any Second Now continues his preparation for Aintree in the Webster Cup a race he won in 2021.

The most competitive race on the Navan card is the Grade B Irish Stallion Farms EBF Novice Handicap Chase Final (3:55). Twelve have been declared for the latter race. I can make a case for eight and may not even have pinpointed the winner like I did in Saturday’s Midlands Grand National.

I normally swerve the early part of the week, but the Navan card is a Saturday card and it was one I looked at before it was postponed.

Inside today’s main piece I have previewed the big novice handicap chase and have several selections for you

Victor’s Saturday Preview – March 18th 2023

Hi all,

What a fantastic four days of sport we have just witnessed. I said the festival had to deliver after a less than stellar jumps season. Well, it did, and in spades.

A nice profit was made for Victor Value subscriber’s thanks in the main to fabulous Thursday and Iroko (advised 8/1) who looked to be going no way on the home turn but stayed on strongly to land the Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle.

That will do for me given we have just seen the four hardest days of racing of the whole calendar year.
