Victor’s Goodwood and Galway Previews – Wednesday August 2nd 2023

Hi all,

Both Goodwood and Galway are now in full swing.

The Group 1 Sussex Sakes (3:35) is the highlight of a seven race card at Goodwood. The undercard also features two Group 3 contests the Oak Tree Stakes (2:25) and the Molecomb Stakes (3:00).

If you aren’t a Racing TV subscriber, you can watch the best of the Goodwood action on a four race ITV programme.

Over at Galway it’s day three of its marathon festival. The highlight of a seven race card is the race the Tote Galway Plate (6:40). Not only is the race the highlight of the Galway Festival but with €159,300 on offer to the winner it’s also the best jumps handicap you will see outside the winter season.

I am beginning today’s preview at Goodwood and as ever today’s selections and betting advice can be found at the end of the main piece.

Victor’s Goodwood & Galway Preview – Tuesday August 1st 2023

Hi all,

Five days of top class racing gets underway in Sussex this afternoon. Yes, it’s the start of Qatar sponsored “Glorious” Goodwood Festival.

If we accept that Royal Ascot is the best racing festival of the summer quality wise. Where does the Qatar Goodwood Festival rank?  Well, I’m biased but I don’t think it’s as good as York’s Ebor Festival.  However, I would rank it ahead of Newmarket’s July Festival and Doncaster’s St Leger Festival.

Inside today’s preview I’m looking at the best of the Goodwood card. Plus, the feature race from the Galway Festival the valuable COLM QUINN BMW Mile Handicap (6:40).

Victor’s Galway Festival Preview – Day 1

Hi all,

The Galway Festival gets underway this evening and it’s the first of seven, yes seven, days of racing there and tomorrow it’s the start of five days of action at the Qatar “Glorious” Goodwood Festival.

It’s going to be a very busy week on the betting front for the service. Indeed, it’s probably the busiest week of the summer for me.

My priority will be Goodwood but there will be previews of the big races from Galway as well as selections from the Irish track.

Whilst my aim will be to secure a profit from Glorious Goodwood. I have found in the past that’s it’s my Galway bets that have ensured I have ended the week with a profit.

Victor’s Saturday Preview – July 29th 2023

Hi all,

Buckle up for the race of the season the season. All the main protagonists bar Desert Crown line up for this afternoon’s King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes (3:40) at Ascot.

Besides the big Group 1 race. The Ascot undercard also features two other Group races and the Moet & Chandon International Stakes (3.00) a competitive 7f handicap with £77,310 on offer to the winner.

ITV are covering four races from Ascot and three from York this afternoon. The highlights of a seven race card at York are the Group 2 Sky Bet York Stakes (3:35) and the Sky Bet Dash Handicap (2:40).

It was soft at Ascot and good to soft York on Friday morning. The weather forecast for both courses is suggesting a mostly dry Friday with a few isolated showers on Saturday. Depending on the strength of the breeze and given the time of year.  I suspect we could be looking at good to soft at Ascot and the easy side of good at York. However, don’t hold me to that prediction.

Betting advice and today’s selections can be found at the end of today’s preview.

Victor’s Friday Preview – July 28th 2023

Hi all,

Ascot kicks off its two day King George meeting with a six-race card.  The feature race is the John Guest Racing Handicap (3:35) which has £23,193 on offer to the winner.

Arguably this evening’s York card is the feature meeting where the headline race is The Listed Lyric Fillies’ Stakes (7.15). There are also five intriguing handicaps with the best of them being the Sky Bet Extra Places Every Day Handicap (7:50). Sadly, the Class 2 handicap only attracted six runners for a race with £30,000 guaranteed prize money. Thankfully the other four handicaps have got double figure line-ups.

Victor’s Thursday Preview – July 27th 2023

Hi all,

It’s the start of what is going to be an extremely busy ten days or so for the service. I’m anticipating selections for each day between now and a week on Sunday. So its time to buckle for some rollercoaster action.

The Racing League gets under way in the evening at Yarmouth. It’s not a concept that I like despite the fact there’s some competitive action on offer. I won’t be having a bet on the card, but its possible I may tune into ITV4 to watch it.

The best of the real stuff is across the Irish Sea at Leopardstown today. The highlights of an eight race card are the Group 3 Silver Flash Stakes (5:12) and Tyros Stakes (5:47). The Group 2 Minstrel Stakes which should have been run at the Curragh on Sunday has also been added to the card.

There’s Listed action at Sandown this afternoon with the Star Stakes (3:15) the feature race of a six race card.

I’ve had a look at all today’s pattern races, and you can read my thoughts below. Today’s betting advice can be found at the end of the main piece.

Victor’s Saturday Preview – July 22nd 2023

Hi all,

There’s racing to suit most punters today. Inside today’s preview I have concentrated on the ITV races and some races at the Curragh.

You can find today’s selections and betting advice at the end of the main piece.

At the Curragh we have classic action with Irish Oaks (3:45) the centerpiece of a cracking eight race card. Just eight have been declared for the four Irish Classic and four of them are trained by Aidan O’Brien.

At Newbury it’s Super Sprint Day. There’s £250,000 in guaranteed prize money with £122,925 on offer to the winner. First established in 1991, this 2-year-old race has since become one of the highlights of Newbury’s summer racing calendar.

What sets the Weatherbys Super Sprint Stakes apart from other races is its unique format. Instead of assigning weights based on the horses’ ability or form, the weights are determined by the sale price of the horse at auction. The concept behind this type of handicapping is to level the playing field and give all horses an equal chance of success.

Over the years, the Weatherbys Super Sprint Stakes has produced some notable winners such as Lyric Fantasy, Tiggy Wiggy, and Mrs Danvers who all went on to achieve success at a higher level.

Jump fans also catered for today. Market Rasen hosts one of the highlights of the summer jumps season, the Unibet Summer Plate Handicap Chase (3:15).

You can watch the best of the action from Newbury and Market Rasen on ITV this afternoon. The programme also includes live coverage of the Irish Oaks.

Let’s begin today’s preview at Newbury.
