Four seconds yesterday made for a frustrating evening for the service. Surely the cards are going to fall right sooner rather than later. I have a handful of selections today from Catterick and Killarney for you today.

Having gone against Tenebrism in yesterday’s Group 1 at Deauville due to her early odds, only to see her win at generous 11/2, I’m out to redeem myself with a winner at Windsor this evening.

It was close but not close enough on Saturday. Not surprisingly the quality of the racing is down after ‘Super Saturday”. The race of the day is the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat at Deauville (2:50). Rather bizarrely given were in the middle of summer there is no flat racing in Britain this afternoon.

It’s “Super Saturday”. It’s not popular with everyone given the wall to wall racing during the afternoon with no time to draw breath. ITV viewers can watch a bumper programme of action with broadcaster covering no less than 11 races live this afternoon.
The race of the day is Newmarket’s Darley July Cup (4.25), one of the world’s most prestigious sprint race. Up at York, it’s John Smith’s Cup Day. The feature handicap which has £200,000 in guaranteed prize money goes off at 4:05. Down at Ascot there’s Group action with the highlights of a seven-race card being the Group 2 Summer Miles Stakes (3.35) and the valuable 5f Betfred Heritage Handicap (3:00).
It’s a Saturday that you either love or hate. We’ll I’m in the former camp. That said, it doesn’t make writing today’s column easy.
I don’t have the time to preview all the ITV races there are just too many of them. I will concentrate ones where I have selections and I have plenty of them. As ever today’s selections and betting advice can be found at the end of the main piece.

Day 2 of the Newmarket July Festival. Once again ITV are covering four races live from the meeting and there also two races from day one of York’s John Smith’s Cup Meeting.
The feature race at Newmarket is the Group 1 Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes (3.15). Inspiral, with Frankie Dettori in the saddle, so impressive in winning the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot is long odds on to maintain her unbeaten career record. She seems to have scared off most of her rivals as only five fillies have been declared for a contest that has £250,000 guaranteed prize money.
The race of a seven-race card at York is the Group 3 William Hill Summer Stakes (2.40). The sponsors will be delighted that the field size has held up well with twelve fillies and mares declared to meet the starter for what looks a very competitive renewal.
In addition to the action at Newmarket and York, on what could be described as “Super Friday”. There’s a decent card at Ascot and across the Irish Sea fourteen handicap chasers have been declared for the Midlands National at Kilbeggan (7:50) which is the third most valuable race of the day.
Continue reading “Victor’s Friday Preview – July 8th 2022”Hi all,
I’m posting this up early, as I think one or two selection will be Pricewise picks.
Newmarket’s July Festival gets underway this afternoon. The going is being described as good to firm¸ good in places. ‘Spits and spots’ of rain forecast for today, but the next three days are set to be mostly dry. It’s worth noting that Clerk Of The Course put down plenty of water before the last meeting so it may not ride as quick.
Today I’m previewing the four Newmarket races and one from Carlisle being covered live by ITV this afternoon. Although one of today’s selections runs in the final handicap on the Newmarket card.

Today I have handful of selections but first here’s a delve into the Victor Value Notebook which takes in last week’s action on the track and includes a couple of horses for the tracker and one I like at the prices for the Goodwood Cup.

Bubble Gift landed the each-way money yesterday when finishing third in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud. Hopefully some of you got on Sammarco in the German Derby. I didn’t put him up as a selection as no bookie had priced up the race, but as I said in yesterday preview, he was open to more improvement for the step up to 1m 4f and he was returned at a rather generous 13/2.
