Victor’s Qatar Goodwood Festival and Galway Plate Preview’s

Hi all,

Sadly, there’s no “dual on the downs” in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes (3:35). It’s a shame for the race that 2,000 Guineas / St James Palace Stakes winner Coroebus had a setback at the weekend and has been forced to miss the race.  So instead of a real race we likely have a procession of 1/5 favourite Baaeed.

Besides day two of the Qatar Goodwood Festival, it’s another evening at Galway and arguably the most competitive race of the day the Galway Plate Handicap (6:40).

Just the seven races at Goodwood today with once again the first six being broadcast live on ITV. In today’s preview I have had a look at the first six races at Goodwood and also the Galway Plate. Today’s selections can be found at the end of the main piece.

Victor’s Qatar Goodwood Festival Preview – Day 1 -Tuesday July 26th 2022

Hi all,

It’s Day 2 of the Galway Festival. The feature race of a seven-race evening card is the COLM QUINN BMW Mile Handicap (Premier Handicap) (6:40).  However, most UK punters eyes will be focused on the start of the Qatar ’Glorious’ Goodwood Festival.

Looking back 12 months the course was hit by 16mm rain of rain the day before the festival got underway which changed the going too heavy for the start of the meeting. No chance of heavy this year. There may be a passing shower during the week, but it looks set to be dry & sunny and getting warmer on Friday & Saturday.

The going at Goodwood on Monday being described as good, good to firm in places and it should be that sort of ground on Tuesday.

In today’s preview I look at the six races live on ITV and the big handicap at Galway. My betting advice can be found at the end of the main piece.

Victor’s Galway Preview – Monday July 25th 2022

Hi all,

Tuesday sees the start of five days of high-class flat action at the Qatar Goodwood Festival. Let’s hope it’s glorious weather or at least decent weather for ‘Glorious’ Goodwood. The big races of meeting are the three Group 1’s: Sussex Stakes, Nassau Stakes, and the Goodwood Cup. The meeting also contains plenty of handicaps. The best of which are Golden Mile Handicap and the Stewards Cup.

We don’t have one racing festival to enjoy this week we have two. It’s day one of a marathon six days at the Galway Festival and with unrestricted crowds returning for the first time since 2019 its sure to be one big party.

It’s a mixed seven race card of jumps but most flat races at Galway this evening. The highlights for me are the four competitive handicaps on the card.  My Galway selections can be found at the end of the main piece.

Victor’s Saturday Preview – July 23rd 2022

Hi all,

All eyes will be on Ascot Ascot for the Group 1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes (3.35). Which sees a clash between the classic generation and their older counterparts. The 3-year-olds are represented by Irish Derby Winner Westover and Epsom Oaks runner-up Emily Upjohn. The older generation are headed by Arc Winner Torquator Tasso, Juddmonte International winner Mishriff and recent Royal Ascot winner Broome. A small field of just sixbut it could produce a great race.

The Ascot undercard is strong two with a pair of Group 3s, the Princess Margaret Keeneland Stakes (1.50) and the Longines Valiant Stakes (2.25) and three competitive handicaps including the twenty two runner Moet & Chandon International Stakes (3:00).

ITV are covering four races from Ascot and three races from York, including the Group 2 Sky Bet York Stakes (3.15) on a seven race programme on the main channel.

It will probably pay to keep an eye on the weather. More rain than was expected earlier in the week was forecast for York on Friday (up to 6mm) with a smaller amount for Ascot, However, the rain bands are showery in nature. Which means some parts will miss the wet stuff and some will get more than their fair share. Rain on already heavily watered ground is a recipe for an ease in the ground.

Saturday’s preview begins where else, but Ascot and today’s betting advice and selections can be found at the end of the main piece.

Victor’s Friday Preview – July 22nd 2022

Hi all,

Ascot’s King George meeting gets underway with a seven-race card. Given the dry weather we have had in the past month it’s not surprising that the field sizes aren’t big. There’s also a seven-race-card card at York this evening with the Listed Lyric Fillies’ Stakes (7.25) the highlight although there three competitive handicaps which interest me more. It might be worth noting that there’s a band of showers heading across Yorkshire today, but the local weather forecasters are unsure as to where they will hit and how much rain will fall. I hoping for my York selections that there isn’t too much of the wet stuff.

Victor’s Wednesday Selections – July 20th 2022

Hi all,

The cooling weather means there are seven meeting across Britain & Ireland on Wednesday. The afternoon action takes place at Lingfield, Southwell and Catterick. The better-quality racing take place this evening where there’s Listed action at Naas. There are also fixtures Sandown, Leicester, and Limerick.  I have several fancies at Naas this evening and one at Southwell.

Victor’s Curragh Preview – Sunday July 17th 2022

Hi all,

Some more decent action at the Curragh with the Group 2 Kilboy Estate Stakes (3.55) and the Group 2 Minstrel Stakes (2.10) the highlights of a seven race card. In today’s preview I have taken a look at six of the eight races on the Curragh card.

Victor’s Friday Preview – July 15th 2022

Hi all,

The Listed Rose Bowl Stakes (3.18) at Newbury is the feature race of an eight-race card at Newbury. There are also afternoon fixtures at Haydock and Nottingham. It’s the final day of Killarney’s Summer Festival

The best of Friday’s action is the evening at Hamilton where the Listed Glasgow Stakes (7.47) and Scottish Stewards’ Cup (7.17) are the highlights of a seven-race card. There are also evening meetings at Newmarket, Pontefract and Kilbeggan.

It’s a case quantity over quality but despite that I have a few fancies across Britain & Ireland.
