As expected, it’s been a quiet week on the selections front. Well, I’m back today and looking at races at Meydan and Huntingdon.
Plenty of racing on Friday with five meeting across Britain & Ireland. The best race is probably the Chatteris Fen Juvenile Hurdle (3.00) at Huntingdon. The rest of Friday’s racing is pretty moderate stuff. Hence why today I’m off to Meydan to have a look at a couple of races at the Dubai Winter Carnival.
Today’s betting advice can be found at the end of the main piece.

There’s Grade 1 action at Naas on Sunday where it’s the Lawlor’s Of Naas Novice Hurdle (2.20). In recent years the 2m 4f race has been won by the likes of Bob Olinger (2021) and Envoi Allen (2020). Who went onto win the Ballymore at the Cheltenham Festival. An impressive winner of this year’s renewal will be challenging Hermes Allen for favouritism in this year’s Ballymore.
Also, on the Naas Card exciting novice chaser Appreciate It will be long odds on to make it 2-2 over fences.
Apart from the Grade 1 race the rest of the Naas card looks unappealing although the two mile handicap chase (1:50) is interesting enough.

It’s Tolworth Hurdle Day at Sandown on Saturday. The Grade 1 novice hurdle (2:25) which was won last year by Constitution Hill is the feature race of a seven race card. Another highlight on the card is the Veterans Chase’ Final (3:00).
ITV are covering five races live from Sandown and a further three from Wincanton as part of an eight race afternoon programme.
Inside today’s main piece I preview the best of the action from Sandown and Wincanton and today’s selection can be found at the end.
I begin today’s preview by looking at the two big races on the Sandown card starting with the Tolworth Hurdle.

The Dubai Winter Carnival begins at Meydan on Friday. I haven’t really played at the last two Carnivals but for those who know me these days used be my post-Christmas highlights. With the prize money almost back to its pre-Covid levels and more international runners back then I’m back taking an interest and looking forward to the action.
In today’s preview I have looked at three of the turf races at Meydan as well as one at Ludlow. Today’s betting advice can be found at the end of the main piece.

2020 was a year when the service merely treaded water. And after a very poor December what was needed was to hit the ground running in January. Well days don’t get any better than New Year’s Day.
Yes, we made a profit last year, but it was much smaller than the previous year. This year I have resolved not put up selections for the sake of it. So, there be plenty of day between now and the Cheltenham Festival when there are no picks.
A tremendous day’s racing at Cheltenham. Made even better by landing four nice-priced winners. If it doesn’t get any better than Sunday and you must bask in such days as they don’t often happen very often.
I mentioned earlier that there will be plenty of days when there isn’t a selection in 2023. If it wasn’t for today’s Sussex National, it would probably have been one of those days.

ITV are covering four races from Cheltenham and two from Musselburgh this afternoon. I have had look at seven races from both tracks and today’s betting advice can be found at the end of the main piece.
Continue reading “Victor’s New Years Day Preview – January 1st 2023”Hi all,
An exceptionally busy festive period of racing is coming to an end. Still, we have some Grade 1 action to enjoy on Saturday from Newbury where the Coral Challow Novices’ Hurdle (3:00) is the highlight of a seven race card. The ITV cameras will be covering five races from Newbury, two from Warwick and one from Lingfield on an eight race programme this afternoon.
I have selections from Newbury, Warwick and Punchestown which you can find at the end of today’s preview.

It’s been a tough month and with just two days left it looks like a sixth successive month of profit will be out of reach. Mind you we’ve pulled out of the fire a couple of time already this season so you can’t rule it out even at this late stage.
There’s a short pause for breath on Friday before more Grade 1 action at Newbury on New Year’s Eve and of course racing at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day. Haydock and Taunton provide the best of today’s action.
I have had a good look at the Haydock card focusing on the five handicaps on the card with an in-depth look the Betfred sponsored Last Fling Handicap Chase.
Today’s betting advice which has selections from both Haydock and Taunton can be found at the end of the main piece.
