Victor’s Sunday Preview – February 5th 2023

Hi all,

Inside today’s main preview I look ahead to the best of Sunday’s action on ITV4.

It’s the second day of Scottish Cheltenham Trials Weekend at Musselburgh. And ITV4 are covering four races live from the track this afternoon. However, most eyes will be on day two of the Dublin Racing Festival at Leopardstown.

The Musselburgh card is interesting enough for a Sunday fixture but in truth it doesn’t excite me as Leopardstown.

Victor’s Saturday Preview – February 4th 2023

Hi all,

Inside today’s main piece you can read my thoughts on the best of Saturday’s action.

It could be Willie Mullins Day on day one of the Dublin Racing Festival. He’s got fancied horses in all four of the Grade 1’s at Leopardstown.

Mullins has six of the 8 runners in the Grade 1 Donohue Marquees Spring Juvenile Hurdle (1:55). And he has five of the 8 runners in the Goffs Irish Arkle Novice Chase (2:30). I don’t think the Mullins domination of the Grade 1’s is good for the sport there but that’s where we are.

I’m going to look at the racing at the Dublin Racing Festival in more detail on Sunday.  Today I’m concentrating on the best of the action on ITV this side of the Irish Sea.  As ever today’s selection can be found at the end of the main piece.

Victor’s Friday Picks – February 3rd 2023

Hi all,

I was expecting more selections today, but my early Meydan fancies were short in the early betting which left me with just Ouzo and he’s drawn out wide in stall 14 in the mile handicap (5:30) that concludes the Meydan card.

Given his long losing run I have decided to leave Ouzo out. That could turn out to be a mistake but Saffie Osborne will have to produce a good ride win from that berth.

That leaves just two from Chepstow.

Victor’s Thursday Picks – February 2nd 2023

Hi all,

My first selections of the new month and let’s hope we can begin February like we did January.

Just to keep you updated. It’s going to be a busy on the betting front over the next three days and I’m planning to get the weekend off with a few selections, mostly from the Dubai Winter Carnival at Meydan, on Friday

The action really notches up several gears on Saturday and Sunday. It’s the start of the Dublin Racing Festival on Saturday and there’s also eight races from Sandown, Musselburgh and Wetherby live on ITV. At this stage expecting to have selections from Leopardstown, Sandown and Musselburgh it just depends on many.

There’s more racing on ITV4 on Sunday with the broadcaster taking four races live from Musselburgh and four from the second day of the Dublin Racing Festival.

On to Thursday’s action. The race of the day is the Class 3 Dick Hunt ‘Wigmore’ Handicap Chase at Wincanton. And it’s that race I have put under the microscope today.  There’s also a selection from the lucky last at Fakenham.

Victor’s Monday Selections – January 30th 2023

Hi all,

Things didn’t go to plan on Saturday and I’m really kicking myself over not putting up Cooper’s Cross in Doncaster’s Sky Bet Handicap Chase. I don’t normally have any selections on a Monday but I have looked at a handful of races at Huntingdon and Hereford.

Victor’s Meydan and Dundalk Preview – Friday January 20th 2023

Evening all,

My first selections since Sunday. That’s partly down to the weather and the quite time of year.

As expected, Market Rasen failed its Thursday inspection. Which means it’s the fourth successive day without jump racing in Britain.

It’s not looking good for Saturday either. Ascot is off, and Haydock which was even money to race a couple of days ago has seen snow fall at the track. There’s a precautionary midday inspection there for Friday but I suspect it will fall to the freezing weather.

Hopes are pinned on Taunton, which will inspect on Saturday morning to see if racing can go ahead, and across the Irish Sea at Navan. It’s hard to see Lingfield’s Sunday Winter Millions card taking place on Sunday.  Less cold weather is pushing in, but the southeast of England might not see it until Sunday night. At least Lingfield’s valuable all-weather card on Saturday should be fine.

I don’t think there’s going to be many selections this weekend if as expected we lose Haydock and Lingfield Sunday card to the frost. Hence why I have had a good look at today’s Meydan and Dundalk cards.  There are a selections from both tracks and today’s betting advice can be found at the end of the main piece.
