Victor’s Friday Preview – April 21st 2023

Hi all,

There’s plenty for lovers of both codes to enjoy over the next couple of days. Newbury’s Greenham Meeting gets underway this afternoon as does Ayr’s Scottish Grand National meeting.  Sadly, there’s no racing on ITV afternoon which is a shame as both cards are strong and I have plenty of fancies on the Ayr card.

Inside today’s preview I look ahead to the best of Friday’s action at Newbury and Ayr and I selections from both meetings.

Victor’s Thursday Preview – April 20th 2023

Hi all,

A poor start to the week so it would be good to get among the winners this afternoon and I’m quietly hopeful that I can.

It’s a third day of ITV4 coverage from Newmarket with the broadcaster covering taking four races live including the Group 3 Craven Stakes (3.35) and the Abernant Stakes (3.00). The broadcaster is also taking the first from Cheltenham where it’s a seven race Mares’ only card.

In today’s preview I have looked at the five races live on ITV4 and today’s betting advice is at the end of the main piece.

Victor’s Wednesday Preview – April 19th 2023

Hi all,

ITV4 are covering four races from Newmarket and one from Cheltenham’s two day April Meeting this afternoon. Today’s feature meetings at Newmarket and Cheltenham are as good as any Saturday during the winter.  Outside the big festivals you would be hard pressed to find a better Tuesday in the racing calendar than today’s offing.

Like yesterday I’m mainly looking at the action from the Craven Meeting. Although I have to say the Cheltenham card looks a cracker too with some big fields and I have selections from that meeting too which you can find at the end of the main piece.

Victor’s Newmarket Preview – Tuesday April 18th 2023

Hi all,

The start of a busy week with likely selections on each day up to Saturday and Scottish Grand National Day.

All eyes today on the return of flat racing at Newmarket. The highlights of three day’s racing at flat racing’s HQ are the two Guineas Trials – the Group 3 Nell Gwyn Stakes on Wednesday and Group 3 bet365 Craven Stakes on the Thursday.  The first named is a QIPCO 1,000 Guineas Trial and the latter a trial for the QIPCO 2000 Guineas.

The ITV4 are cameras are covering all three days from Newmarket this year which is a bonus for those who don’t have a subscription to one of the racing channels.

The feature race on day one of the Craven meeting is the Group 3 bet365 Earl Of Sefton Stakes (3:35).

Frankie Dettori is back from a spell riding in the US and has three booked rides including Reach For The Moon in the Earl Of Sefton Stakes.

In today’s preview I have looked at the four Newmarket races live on ITV Racing and my selections and betting advice can be found at the end of the main piece.

Victor’s Aintree Grand National Festival – Day 2 Preview

Hi all,

It’s Day 2 of Aintree’s Grand National Festival. Another four Grade 1 races for racegoers and those watching on ITV to enjoy this afternoon. There are also three competitive handicaps including the Topham Handicap Chase (4:55) over the National fences. This tends to be my favourite day of the three and the one I tend to have the biggest swing at punting wise.

There didn’t seem to be much soft in the ground on the Mildmay Course on Thursday. The track is forecast to get 10 to 12mm on Friday but if it doesn’t arrive in those volumes, you can probably chuck out the mud lovers from your calculations. I’m sending this out after racing on Thursday, so the weather situation is problematic. I have worked on the assumption that the track gets the forecast amount of rain which could turn out to be well wide of the mark.

I have looked at all seven races on the card and Friday’s Aintree selections/betting advice can be found at the end of today’s preview.

The Randox Aintree Grand National gets underway this afternoon with a seven race card. The meeting, which culminates with the latest running of the Grand National on Saturday, looks sure to provide some top class action.

The cameras are broadcasting five races each day live from Aintree but as I did at the Cheltenham Festival, I will be looking at all the races over the three days.

Victor’s Easter Monday ITV Preview – April 10th 2023

Hi all,

Teddy’s Blue’s win at Plumpton ensured no damage done to the betting account on Sunday.

A new week begins with one Grand National and ends with another. The highlight of the final day of Fairyhouse’s Easter Festival is of course the Boylesports Irish Grand National (5:00). The richest jumps race run in Ireland with €500,000 guaranteed prize money has attracted a maximum field of 30 runners.

ITV4 are covering five races from Fairyhouse and four races from Kempton this afternoon. The best of the Kempton races is a competitive looking renewal of the Class 2 Racing TV Rosebery Handicap (4:05).

Easter Monday’s betting advice can be found at the end of the main piece if you don’t want to ready today’s preview. Although I suggest you do spend some some time on it.

The best of the action this side of the Irish Sea is to be found at Plumpton where the feature contest is the BetGoodwin Sussex Champion Hurdle Handicap Hurdle (4:15). As National’s go the West Wales National at Ffos Las (3:25) isn’t one of the best but for the connections of the 11 runners It’s their big day.
