Victor’s Monday Selections – July 17th 2023

Hi all,

I don’t normally come out to play on Monday but there’s a good Class 3 handicap at Ayr with £15,462 on offer to the winner, it’s a decent pot for a Monday and rightly attracted a decent sized field of 16 runners.

I have also found a couple of other selections at Ayr and Windsor this afternoon.

Victor’s Super Saturday Preview – July 15th 2023

Hi all,

It’s ‘Mad Saturday’. The afternoon in the flat racing calendar when it’s a case wall to wall racing. The action comes thick and fast making it difficult to keep a handle on what’s happening.

Punters either love it or hate it. For what’s it worth I have come around to embrace the day rather than knock it.  Mind you it doesn’t make writing Saturday’s column easy. What do you put in and what do you leave out. Especially as I am doing a full Saturday preview exclusively for Victor Value subscribers.

You can enjoy a bumper ten race programme of racing on ITV this afternoon with the broadcaster covering racing from three courses: Newmarket, Ascot, and York.

The Newmarket feature race and the race of the day is the Group 1 July Cup (4:35). The undercard is decent and includes the Group 2 Superlative Stakes (3.25) and Bunbury Cup (4.00).

At Ascot the feature race is the Group 2 Summer Mile (2.20).

The highlights of a seven race card at York are the Group 3 John Smith’s Silver Cup Stakes (3.45) and one of my favourite races of the season the John Smith’s Cup (3:10).

Today’s preview is a long one as I’m looking at all seven Newmarket races and the ITV races from York and Ascot.

Please note: I have only done verdicts for the ten races on ITV.

Victor’s Newmarket July Festival Preview – Day 2

Victor’s Newmarket July Festival Preview – Day 1

Hi all,

Firstly, a big welcome to all of you who have joined the service for the week. Not only will there be previews of all the races at the Newmarket July Festival but as a bonus I will also preview two race from York on Friday and four from York and two from Ascot on ‘Mad Saturday’.

It’s day one of the July Festival at Newmarket.  Let’s be clear this isn’t Royal Ascot and it’s not York’s Ebor Festival. However, it’s a good three days of racing which culminates on Saturday with the Group 1 July Cup which is arguably Europe’s premier 6f sprint.

There’s an uncertain weather forecast for Newmarket which is never good news for punters. Depending how much rain comes the going could be anywhere between good to firm and good to soft come Friday afternoon.

It may well pay for you to place you bets as close as to the race as possible over the next few days. I know that’s not ideal for some of you but sudden going changes can provide great betting opportunities.

ITV are covering four races live from Newmarket this afternoon.  Today’s selections and betting advice can be found at the end of the main piece.

Victor’s Saturday Preview – July 8th 2023

Hi all,

I have had the luxury of getting Saturday’s preview and selections out early.

It’s the first Group 1 ‘clash of the generations’ over middle distance in Britain this afternoon with the latest renewal of the Coral- Eclipse (3:40) at Sandown.

Besides the best of the action from Sandown. ITV are also covering three races live from Haydock including the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks and historic Old Newton Cup Handicap.

Saturday’s selections and betting advice can be found at the end of the main piece.

Victor’s Sandown Preview – Friday July 6th 2023

Hi all,

It’s been a quiet week on the betting front and my first two selections of the week can be found at the end of the main piece.

The clash of the generations between Emily Upjohn is on with both being declared for Saturday’s Coral-Eclipse. Sadly, there’s no Anmaat who had developed an abscess on his foot. Paddington’s stablemate Luxembourg also wasn’t declared. That just leaves a field of four the tomorrow’s big race.

Sandown’s Coral-Eclipse meeting gets underway this afternoon. There are three Listed contests on a seven race card including the Coral Marathon (3.05). Besides Sandown there are flat meetings at Doncaster Haydock and Beverley.
