Hi all,

The Guinness Kerry National (4.25) at Listowel is the highlight of Wednesday’s action. However. there’s also a couple of Listed races this side of the Irish Sea worth watching. At Yarmouth we have the EBF Stallions John Musker Fillies’ Stakes (3.45) and at Sandown the Chasemore Farm Fortune Stakes (3.40) is the feature race of a six race card at the Esher track.

In today’s preview I have had a look at the big races at Listowel, Sandown and Yarmouth and today’s betting advice can be found at the end of the main piece.

Victor’s Doncaster St Leger Festival Day 4 Preview – September 17th 2023

Hi all,

The Group 3 Sceptre Fillies’ Stakes (3.35) is the feature race on final day of Doncaster’s St Leger Festival. The undercard also includes the Listed Scarbrough Stakes (4.10). Sadly, the latter race attracted just four runners. Add in the Leger Legends race (3:00) and two Class 5 handicaps that bookend the card and this is a poor way to end a supposedly major festival.

Listowel’s Harvest Festival gets underway on Sunday afternoon. It’s the first of six days racing at the Irish racecourse which ends next Saturday. I will be having a few selections at the meeting over the next few days but not as many as I’ve had in the past.

Inside today’s preview I’m just looking at four races on the Doncaster card.

Today’s race sees Desert Hero bid to become the first Royal winner of the race since Dunfermline in 1977. The undercard is also strong with two Group 2 contests the Champagne Stakes (1:50) & Park Stakes (3:00).

Victor’s Doncaster St Leger Festival Day 1 Preview – Thursday September 14th 2023

Hi all,

Doncaster’s four day St Leger Festival gets underway on Thursday afternoon. It’s Ladies Day on day one. The highlights being the Betfred May Hill Stakes for juvenile fillies and the Betfred Park Hill Stakes, for older fillies and mares, which is run over the same course and distance as the St Leger.

The Group 2 Betfred Doncaster Cup is the feature race on Friday.  Recent York winner Coltrane will bid for back to back wins in the race. The Group 2 Carlsberg Danish Pilsner Flying Childers Stakes is part of the undercard.

The Betfred St Leger and the final British Classic of the of the 2023 flat season. Just nine were left in the race at Monday’s final confirmation stage but this year’s renewal has an open look. The St Leger is the feature race of Saturday’s card which also contains the Group 2 Champagne Stakes, the Group 2 Park Stakes, and the competitive Portland Handicap.

This year’s festival ends on Sunday with what has been called the St Leger Community Funday. The headline race on the card is the Group 3 Sceptre Fillies’ Stakes (3.35) which also includes the Listed Scarbrough Stakes (4.10).

Doncaster is one of the fairest racecourses in the country. It’s a left handed, galloping track which dries out quickly.

Low numbers can be favoured in races on the straight mile when the ground is soft or heavy. But mostly there’s isn’t much in the way of a draw bias.

There was 21mm of rain at Doncaster on Tuesday which turned the going to soft all over. There could be 6mm of rain on Thursday, but Friday and Saturday should be mainly dry.

For each of the four days I will be going through the card and my betting advice can be found after each day’s main piece.

Victor’s Sunday Preview – September 10th 2023

Hi all,

Irish Champions Weekend switches from Leopardstown to the Curragh for today’s action. There are no less than four Group 1’s on an eight race card. Add in a couple of big field handicaps that bookend the card and you have the makings of cracking afternoon.  I’m beginning today’s preview with a look at the four Group 1’s on the card.

Victor’s Big Saturday Preview – August 8th 2023

Hi all,

It’s the biggest weekend of the year for Irish flat racing.

Irish Champions Day at Leopardstown tomorrow and the Curragh on Sunday will provide high class action and betting opportunities. The racing this side of the Irish Sea isn’t too bad either with the highlight quality wise being Haydock’s Group 1 Betfair Sprint Cup.

ITV Racing are covering no less than 10 races live from four courses this afternoon including the Leopardstown Group 1’s.

The summer weather is going to hold on for another day if the weather forecast is correct. It’s going to be dry at all the tracks on Saturday. Plenty of rain is forecast for the Curragh on Sunday so that’s something to keep an eye on.

I have looked at most of Saturday’s big races. However, for the sake of brevity I have concentrated on those races where there are selections.

I’m beginning Saturday’s preview at Haydock and today’s betting advice can be found at the end of the main piece.
