Victor’s Saturday Preview – February 24th 2024

Hi all,

Saturday’s feature race is the Coral Trophy Handicap Chase at 3:37, which boasts £150,000 in guaranteed prize money. Twelve have stood their ground for the feature race which is slightly more than I was expecting earlier in the week. Kempton’s undercard features three Grade 2 contests: the Adonis Juvenile Hurdle at 1:50, the Pendil Novices’ Chase at 2:27, and the Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle at 3:00.

Meanwhile, Newcastle hosts Eider Chase Day, headlined by the marathon Betting.Bet Eider Handicap Chase at 2:08, run over 4m 1½ f distance. This race often serves as a pointer indicator for races like the Grand National, Scottish Grand National, and Midlands Grand National.  Thirteen were declared for this year’s race which could be a gruelling test of stamina in what will be testing ground.

Additionally, the Group 3 BetUK Winter Derby Stakes, normally held at Lingfield, will take place at Southwell this year. Among the six runners are last year’s winner Lord North, and Charlie Appleby trained Military Order.

There are now eight races live on ITV Saturday afternoon. Five are from Kempton, two from Southwell, including the Winter Derby, and the Eider Chase at Newcastle.  Kempton’s extra race is the Coral Racing Club Handicap Hurdle (1:15). It’s a race I wasn’t anticipating looking at but looks likely to provide the biggest field of the Kempton card.

Victor’s Friday Preview – February 23rd 2024

Hi all,

My first selections of the week. We’ve lost a good Warwick to waterlogging which is a shame as I had a couple of fancies on the card.  All is not lost Friday’s best race is at Exeter and it’s the My Pension Expert Devon National Handicap Chase (3:40).

Victor’s Friday Selections

Hi all.

Bretney made all to win at Sandown on Thursday and delivered a well-deserved BOG 16/1 winner for the service.  Given his proven stamina and the likelihood he would get an uncontested lead I was surprised to see him go off at such a big price. He’s the biggest priced winner so far of 2024 and hopefully will be the first of many in the coming months.

Today I’m turning my attention to one at Kelso.

Victor’s Sandown Preview – February 15th 2024

Hi all,

There’s a decent Sandown card this afternoon and its tempted me in for the first time this week. The feature contest is the Grade 2 Jane Seymour Novices’ Hurdle (2.30). Aston Martini, unbeaten on her three starts under rules, will bid to follow up her recent Lingfield success and is the early bird favourite.

There’s another race for military amateur jockeys with the latest renewal of the Royal Artillery Gold Cup (3.05). Farceur Du Large winner of Grand Military Gold Cup at the last meeting will be a short price to do the double.

Besides those races there are three competitive handicaps and I have selections in two of them.
