Hi all,
Another quiet start to the week but unlike last week I’m not expecting as many selections as last weekend.
A moderate day of racing but I have three that interest me today.
Huntingdon
The day’s feature race is the Listed Sidney Banks Memorial Novices’ Hurdle at Huntingdon (3:00).
Rare Edition the shortest priced English trained runner in the Supreme Novices Hurdle betting is expected to maintain his unbeaten record over hurdles. His biggest rival looks to be Persian Time, trained by Nicky Henderson, who made a winning hurdle debut at Ascot in November.
In an open looking Supreme I think Rare Edition has, I believe, been underestimated in the betting. He’s been underestimated for two reasons he trained by Charlie Longsdon and he’s not Irish. Still available at 12/1 with Betfair Sportsbook. He would half those odds if he was trained by a Nicholls or a Henderson. An impressive win today will see those odds cut.
4:10 – Hydroplane, a winner at Chester on the level last June is back down to his last winning hurdles mark. The 7-year-old returned from a six month absence with a solid enough effort when 3rd of 9 at Kempton last month. That run should have blown away the cobwebs for a return to hurdling and he’s one to seriously consider.
Hydroplane – 1pt win – 10/1 @ Paddy Power & Betfair Sportsbook.
Doncaster
2:15 – Lough Salt bounced back to winning ways at this time last year winning over C&D twice including this race, off 4lb lower. Followed up the following month from 3lb higher than he races off today. Form since has been pretty woeful but he’s suited by a sound surface and ticks the all-important course and distance boxes. The 12-year-old comes with risks attached for sure but is nicely weighted when returning to form.
Lough Salt – 1pt win – 10/1 @ Bet365.
Thurles
4:25 – Rideau Canal – A moderate maiden hurdler for Alan King, the 8-year-old returned from an 11 month absence to seemingly put in a much improved performance when a 3 lengths 3rd of 11 in a Fairyhouse maiden hurdle 15-days ago. That was his first start for Denise Foster and the first time tongue tie he wore last time is retained. If he can back up his latest effort back in handicap company he’s primed to go close.
Rideau Canal – 1pt win – 10/1 @ Coral & Ladbrokes.
Cheers
John
