I have a selection from this afternoon’s meeting at Goodwood.

3:00 – It was soft ground when Spanish Star won this corresponding race 12 months ago. That was the 7-year-old’s last success, but he’s been running well this season without winning which means he’s 3lb higher than he was 12 months ago. Chiefofchiefs heads the betting and is dropping back in class here. That said he’s on a losing run that goes back to 2020 and although he’s a winnable mark I’m not sure that today’s smaller field scenario will play to his strengths. Dora Penny made it 8 wins from 22 starts when winning at Ffos Las 13-days ago. The filly looked better than ever when winning last time and even another 4lb rise may underestimate her improvement. Despite the slight niggle that this may prove to be one race too far this season she’s high on my shortlist. Her stablemate Lihou is back up to 6f today. He’s done well here in the past and likes some ease in the ground. His can’t be discounted with Hollie Doyle back in the saddle but his profile isn’t as appealing as Dora Penny.
