Victor’s Thursday Selections – September 1st 2022

Hi all,

After a quiet few days’ quality wise Salisbury hosts the Group 3 Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes (3.20. It’s also the first of the day’s racing at Haydock culminating on Betfair Sprint Cup Day on Saturday.

Salisbury

Despite the good to firm ground there’s a good entry of 12 juvenile fillies for the Group 3 Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes (3:20). There’s even an Irish challenger with Jessica Harrington bringing over Funny Money Honey.

The early favourite is the Ralph Beckett trained Juliet Sierra. The daughter of Bated Breath impressed when winning at Nottingham on her second start and is bred to be useful. However, she may have to play second fiddle to the more experienced Immortal Beauty. The daughter of Cotai Glory only won a Lingfield nursery last time but there was plenty to like about the turn of foot she showed to win over 7f. Ryan Moore has been booked and I don’t think the drop back to 6f will inconvenience this improving juvenile.

3:20 – 1pt win – Immortal Beauty – 5/1 – Gen.

Haydock

The feature of a seven-race card is the British EBF Reprocolor Premier Fillies’ Handicap (4:45). Persist, trained by William Haggas, heads the betting. The filly looked suited by the step up to today’s distance when 1¾ lengths 2nd of 4 at Nottingham 20-days ago. She’s likely capable of better and is the one to beat. Terra Mitica looked an improving filly when winning at Salisbury two starts back but she was disappointing when last of 4 at Nottingham last time. Surely never gave her running at Nottingham and if she bounces to form would be a big danger to the favourite. Another danger is Greek Flame. She probably didn’t stay 1m 4f at Kempton last time and is better judged on her short head 2nd of 8 at Chester. Unexposed on turf and with Benoit De La Sayette who rode her at Chester is back in the saddle she looks a decent price at around 15/2.

4:45 – 1pt win – Greek Flame – 15/2 @ Coral & Ladbrokes

Cheers

John
