Victor’s Sunday ITV Racing Preview – August 28th 2022

Hi all,

The Group 3 Supreme Stakes (3.35) is the highlight on the final day of Goodwood’s three-day August meeting. The Sunday Series may have ended but ITV are broadcasting seven races live from Goodwood & Beverley this afternoon. I have had a look at six of the seven races and Sunday’s betting advice can be found at the end of the main piece.

Goodwood

1:50 – Many A Star wasn’t winning out of turn when getting up close to home over C&D at the Qatar Festival last time. Only up 2lb but at his best on good to firm ground so drier ground would be welcome but he’s got a favorites chance.

Dusky Lord stays 6f but has been campaigned over 5f this season. Posted a career best when a ½ length 2nd of 15 here at the Qatar Goodwood Festival. Held up and had no chance from his high draw when last of 22 at York last time 11-days ago. The headgear he’s worn on his last two starts are left off and the return to smaller field may suit him better.

3:00 – Falling Shadow looked much improved on his second start in handicap company when a 1¼ lengths 2nd of 6 at Newmarket 22-days ago.  Up 6lb but seems to be going the right way and good ground will make him hard to beat. That said he does face four rivals who have potential to do better.

Savvy Victory had the run of the race out in front when a nose 2nd of 4 to Protagonist at Doncaster last month. He can race off the same mark here and the winner was successful at Sandown last Saturday. Won on a soft ground maiden at Pontefract in April so ease in the ground shouldn’t inconvenience him.

Paradias looked an improver when winning at Yarmouth in June. The colt bounced back from a poor run on soft ground at Haydock when a neck 2nd of 12 to the improving Caius Chorister here last month. Up 6lb makes life tougher but we know he handles the track, and he did pull nicely clear of third last time.

3:35 – Weatherbys Stallion Book Supreme Stakes (Group 3) – 7f

Just the six go to post for the day’s feature race. Happy Power isn’t the most consistent, but he’s ground versatile, and he did win this race in 2020. Must be respected if reproducing last times length 4th of 11 to Sandrine in the Group 2 Lennox Stakes over C&D.

Double or Bubble runner-up here 12 months ago put in a career best when a 3 ½ lengths fifth of 13 to Alcohol Free in July Cup last time. A consistent mare she probably needs the ground to dry out further but if it does, she’s got a good chance of going one place better than last year.

Beverley

2:05 – Outsmart doesn’t have the best of draws for a prominent racer but he went well around here earlier in the season form figures 21 and bounced back to form last time when ½ length 3rd of 8 at Wolverhampton 9-days ago. On a fair mark if he can overcome his wide draw.

Multiple Newcastle winner Broctune Red was as good as ever on grass when ½ length 2nd of 15 at Thirsk when last seen in action in May. Sole win on grass came over C&D and his form figures at Beverley are 231. Not handicapped out of this if ready to roll after a 106-day break.

Strangerontheshore gained a third win of the season, a second over C&D, when successful 17-days ago. Up 6lb makes life tougher for the filly but she’s in form and has a handy low draw in stall 3.

Four time course winner Poets Dawn is on bit of a losing run but he’s 15lb below his last winning mark and a reproduction of his ¾ length 3rd of 10 at Pontefract two starts back would see the 7-year-old bang there at the finish.

2:40 – Just the five for this Class 5 handicap and looks between recent C&D winner Golden Keeper and recent Yarmouth winner Captain Kane. Slight preference for the first named who has only had four starts and has the the scope to better with racing.

3:15 – Plenty of speedy juveniles with claims in this 5f nursery handicap. Not For Profit got the better of a three way photo at Ripon last time and must be considered on nursery debut.

Let’s Go Hugo got off the mark at the third attempt when winning at Catterick two starts back and was a respectable 3rd of 6 under a penalty at Musselburgh last month.

California Gem won over C&D two starts back but was very disappointing when only 14th of 16 stepped up to 6f on nursery debut at Goodwood last time.

Beautiful Aisling shaped with plenty of promise on her first two starts running a subsequent Listed winner when a neck 2nd of 9 on her racecourse debut. Outclassed but not disgraced in the Group 3 Albany Stakes (6f) at Royal Ascot two starts back. Got off the mark dropped back to 5f when winning over C&D 17-days ago and respected on handicap debut.

Tattershall built on his racecourse debut 3rd of 8 to smart juvenile The Platinum Queen when a ½ length 2nd of 12 over C&D. Disappointing effort at Ayr last month but he tried to make all in a strong headwind that day so it may pay to ignore that performance. Looks on a workable mark for his nursery debut.
